AO Transit— Bus Rapid Transit: Update <br />SUMMARY AND 1 ECOMMFNDATlON <br />On May 31, 2012 a subcommittee of the City's Facilities and Transportation Committee met <br />with AC; Transit elected officials in San Leandro to review its East Bay Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) <br />project and to elicit input on the project from the Facilities and 'Transportation Committee <br />members The City Council will review AC; Transit's Locally Preferred Alternative (LP A) at its <br />July 16, 2012 meeting. <br />This is for information only, and no action is required. <br />BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION <br />On May 31, 2012 a meeting was held by a subcommittee of the Facilities and Transportation <br />Committee consisting of Council Meniber Pauline Cutter and Vice Mayor Michael Gregory with <br />AC: Transit Board Members Elsa Ortiz and Mark Williams. City staff, including the City <br />Manager, and AC; Transit staff, along with AC; Transit's General Manager, were in attendance to <br />facilitate the meeting and provide project- specific inforination. <br />AC: 'Transit staff started the meeting by indicating that the goal of the meeting was to reach a <br />mutually satisfactory solution to BRT project issues. AC; Transit staff then reviewed the BRT <br />project and some of the challenges that were expressed during the last neighborhood niceting on <br />March 1, 2012 and from conversations with Council Members and staff. <br />Two alternative plans %were shared. The First alternative included modifications to the latest <br />proposed plan that unproved parking and loading zones and relocated bus stops to reduce <br />%walking distances to senior housing facilities. A new pedestrian signal was added at Farrelly <br />Drive For the relocated bus stop. The second alternative reduced dedicated bus lanes by ending <br />then at Broadmoor Boulevard and providing a bus lane transition between Broadmoor <br />Boulevard and Garcia Avenue. It relocated bus stops to reduce distances to senior housing <br />Facilities. A new pedestrian signal was added at Farrelly Drive for the relocated bus stop. <br />TraFfie signals proposed for BeIIeview Thrive and Sunnysid e Drive were eliminated. The reduced <br />
