Next Steps
AC Transit has proposed adjustments to the project that mitigate some of the challenges that
have been identified. However, two main issues remain unresolved. First, the replacement of a
route that is continuous along the length of East 14 Street; and second, the ability to make left
hand turns at Broadr000r Boulevard from southbound Fast 14' Street. As noted in the
discussion above, AC Transit has indicated that it will address the replacement of the East 14'
Street route by conducting a service planning effort closer to the start of the BRT service. This
service planning effort will most likely cover the entire city in addition to the East 14` Street
route issue, and will include senior citizen and student needs. AC Transit is still studying the
issue of left turns from southbound East 14 111 Street to Broadmoor Boulevard and wi11 report later
its proposed resolution to this matter.
The Facilities and Transportation Committee will review the project at its June 13, 2012 meeting.
Although originally planncd for late May, the City of San Leandro City Council will be asked to
review tlic Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) on July 16, 2011 it is anticipated that the BI T
project will be reviewed by the entire Council in advance of the July lath Council meeting in
either a work session or a regular Oily Council meeting. AC Transit will be requested to make a
presentation in this advance meeting and answer questions on the project,
City staff' will prepare a report ror the July 16, 2012 meeting that will review the BR project
and the alternatives for the City. An update on the unresolved project challenges will be
provided for discussion. Council at this time will be asked to pass a resolution indicating the
City's desired LPA and associated conditions on the project.
Attachments: Alternative Sketches
