Discussion Regarding City/District Art Concept <br />Board Member Prola: <br />• For the Village Marketplace, suggested that local art be incorporated into the <br />design, i.e., SLUSD Advanced Placement Art Class. <br />• Will discuss with the SLUSD Art Teachers to get more suggestions. <br />City Manager Zapata: <br />• Need to involve the developer, David Irmer, to incorporate local art. <br />• Depending on the type of art, a liability factor will have to be discussed. <br />• Developer is committed to the historic preservation of the City and an art piece that <br />complements the City. <br />• New overpasses at I-880/Marina Boulevard and Davis Street will incorporate San <br />Leandro art themes, i.e., cherries and Monarch butterflies. <br />Board Member Mack -Rose: <br />• Suggests "Family Friendly City" art -themed pieces <br />• Commented that San Leandro needs public art; gave City of Hayward art project as <br />an example. <br />Councilmember Reed: <br />• Stated that the original design involves hand -painted tiles that will enhance the <br />Village Marketplace project, which are already approved in the design. <br />• Suggested possible display cases inside the building so different art could be <br />rotated. <br />2.A. Discussion Regarding "Weight of the Nation" Documentary Event <br />Vice Mayor Gregory: <br />• Was inspired by program "Shape Up Somerville, Massachusetts," which brings <br />awareness to child obesity.
