Officers <br />Cathy Pickard and Tom Rogers introduced themselves. They gave an overview of <br />what the current SLHS campus atmosphere was like. <br />Superintendent Cathey: <br />• Mentioned that the District had an initial meeting with the SROs prior to the start of <br />the school year. <br />• Hoped that the SROs would be involved in the current recruitment of the Gang <br />Intervention Specialist position. <br />• Mentioned that the students are wearing new lanyards this year. The SROs stated <br />that the lanyards are an improvement in identifying students on campus. <br />• Commented that the SROs' insights on procedures have been extremely helpful <br />over the years in having the District adapt to changes and student behavior. <br />• Commented on and thanked the City for the huge benefit and impact of the new <br />signal light at Bancroft and 136th Avenues. <br />Councilmember Reed: <br />• Announced plans are underway for a January 21, 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. <br />Holiday Celebration, called Oratorical Festival, featuring a student speech <br />competition. <br />• All San Leandro students are invited to participate. <br />Vice Mayor Gregory: <br />• Conveyed thanks to Evelyn Gonzales and her family and Carolyn Knudtson for their <br />contribution to the September 15, 2012 Bike Party, which was a huge success. <br />• Would like to see future agenda items: <br />o Weight of the Nation <br />o Wellness Policy <br />o Chicken/Bees Policy Discussion <br />Board Member Mack -Rose: <br />• Announced October 3, 2012 International Walk and Roll to School Days. <br />• Announced the YMCA Youth and Government Program, which will begin this fall at <br />SLHS. <br />5.
