UNION SECURITY (Contd.) <br /> deductions of Union dues or a service fee equivalent to Union dues as a condition of <br /> employment, and that such authorization may be revoked within the first thirty days <br /> of employment upon proper written notice of the employee within said thirty day <br /> period as set forth in paragraph C. of this section. Each such employee shall, upon <br /> completion of the authorization form, receive a copy of said authorization form which <br /> shall be deemed proper notice of his or her right to revoke said authorization. The <br /> Union shall receive from the Department a copy of the completed form by all new <br /> employees hired within the represented unit. - <br /> C. REVOCATION OF UNION DUES. Any employee desiring to revoke his or her <br /> authorization for Union dues or a service fee equivalent to Union dues as provided <br /> above shall proceed as follows: Said employee shall, within the periods set forth <br /> • above, forward letters to the Department setting forth his or her desire to revoke said <br /> authorization and the reasons therefor. The Department shall promptly forward a <br /> copy of said Letter to the union. No authorizations shall be revoked for a period of 30 <br /> days following transmittal of said letter to the union. To be considered, a letter shall <br /> be received by the Department on or before the thirtieth calendar day following the <br /> date of first employment or within the month of June as specified in paragraphs B. <br /> and C. of this section. Failure to timely notify the Department shall be deemed an <br /> abandonment of the right to revocation until the next appropriate time period. <br /> D. EXCLUSIONS. The modified maintenance of membership and modified agency shop <br /> provisions set forth in paragraphs A., B., and C. herein. shall not apply to persons <br /> designated by the Board as confidential. <br /> E. PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS AND PAYOVER. The Department shall deduct Union <br /> dues or service fees and premiums for approved insurance programs from employees' <br /> pay in conformity with State and County regulations. The Department shall promptly <br /> pay over to the designated payee all sums so deducted. <br /> F. HOLD HARMLESS. The Union shall indemnify and hold the Department harmless <br /> from any and all claims. demands, suits, or any other action arising from the modified <br /> maintenance of membership and modified agency shop provisions herein, or from <br /> complying with any demand for termination hereunder, or from the deduction of <br /> amounts for insurance or benefit programs of the Union. <br /> • <br /> G. CONTINUED RECOGNITION. It is agreed that in the event that the Alameda <br /> County Fire Department shall be merged or consolidated with any other Fire District <br /> within Alameda County during the life of this Memorandum of Understanding, the <br /> County /Department. to the extent permitted by law, will continue during such period <br /> to recognize Union as the sole representative of the employees covered by this <br /> Memorandum of Understanding. <br /> SECTION 4. SHOP STEWARDS <br /> A. PURPOSE. The Fire Department recognizes the need and affirms the right of Union <br /> to designate shop stewards from among employees in the unit. It is agreed that Union <br /> in appointing such shop stewards does so for the purpose of promoting an effective <br /> relationship between supervisors and employees by helping to settle problems at the <br /> lowest level of supervision. <br /> 168 <br /> FIRE - 2 <br />
