• • <br /> SECTION 4. SHOP STEWARDS (Contd.) <br /> F. CONDUCT OF MEETING. Any meeting of shop stewards and supervisors will be <br /> held in a quiet, dignified manner. Management personnel will agree to recognize and <br /> work with Union stewards in a conscientious effort to settle problems at the earliest <br /> possible step of the grievance procedure. <br /> G. LII'vIITATIONS ON TIME OFF. Stewards shall not be permitted time off from their <br /> work assignments for the purpose of conducting general Union business. <br /> • <br /> SECTION 5. TOURS OF DUTY (SHIFTS) AND FIRE SCHEDULES <br /> A. FIRE SUPPRESSION SCHEDULES. The normal tour of duty for each employee <br /> assigned to fire suppression shall be 24 consecutive hours, commencing at 8:00 a.m. <br /> and ending at 8:00 a.m. the following day. The average number of scheduled hours <br /> per week shall be 56. <br /> Effective January 1, 1994, the fire suppression schedule shall include three 24 -hour <br /> tours on -duty and six 24 -hour tours off -duty within a total cycle of nine consecutive <br /> 24 -hour periods, as follows: <br /> X0X0XOOOO. <br /> • <br /> B. SCHEDULES OTHER THAN FIRE SUPPRESSION. The average number of <br /> scheduled hours per week for each employee assigned to activities other than fire <br /> suppression shall be 40. <br /> C. PERFORMANCE OF ROUTINE DUTIES. Routine duties for fire suppression <br /> personnel are normally performed from OS00 hours until 1700 hours, it being <br /> understood and agreed that, because of the nature of the fire service, an increasing <br /> level of fire service requirements and emergency responses, the Department may <br /> determine that performance of such duties outside of such hours is necessary for <br /> operational reasons. <br /> D. MEALS PROVIDED. In the event. that fire suppression crews are unable to return <br /> • to their quarters for one hour during the periods of 1100 hours through 1400 hours <br /> or between the hours of 1700 hours through 2000 hours due to emergency operations <br /> or trallllng, the Department shall provide a meal for each affected employee. <br /> E. BIDDING SYSTEM. The bidding procedures to be followed are located in the <br /> Alameda County Fire Department Official Action Guidelines. <br /> SECTION 6. OVERTIME <br /> A. REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE REQUIRED. The Fire Chief or designee shall <br /> prepare a schedule designating the work hours for each employee. Work for the <br /> Department by an employee at times other than those so scheduled shall be approved <br /> in advance by the Chief or assistant or, in cases of unanticipated emergency. shall be <br /> approved by the Chief or assistant after such emergency work is performed. <br /> 10 <br /> FIRE -4 • <br /> • <br />
