• • <br /> APPENDIX C <br /> CLASSIFICATION <br /> 1200 Authority <br /> Pursuant to the provisions of section 36 (a) of the Charter, it shall be the duty of the <br /> Commission to provide for the classification of all positions in the classified service and from <br /> time to time for the reclassification of any or all such positions. It also shall be the duty of <br /> the Commission to allocate and reallocate individual positions to classes. Each classification <br /> action of the Commission shall be submitted to the Board of Supervisors and shall become . <br /> effective upon approval by said Board. <br /> 1204 The Official Classification Plan <br /> The schedule of classes adopted by the Commission and approved by the Board of <br /> Supervisors, effective July 1, 1956, together with all subsequent amendments, constitutes the <br /> official classification plan for all positions in the classified service. The classification plan <br /> shall not be deemed to be a part of the rules of the Commission, but shall serve as an <br /> administrative tool for its personnel transactions. <br /> • <br /> 1208 Maintenance of Plan <br /> The classification plan shall be kept current by continual investigation and review of <br /> positions in the classified service. Such investigation and review may include the survey of <br /> a single position, or county -wide surveys of all positions in a single class or class series, or <br /> surveys of positions in an organizational unit, or surveys of positions in an occupational <br /> grouping. The investigation and review of a position or positions may be initiated by the <br /> Commission or upon the request of a department head or an employee. In addition the <br /> Commission shall provide for periodic reclassification surveys of all positions in the classified <br /> service. <br /> Department heads and employees shall make available to the Commission or its <br /> authorized representatives all pertinent information required to properly maintain the <br /> classification plan, including new statements of duties and responsibilities as needed. <br /> 1212 Amending the Plan <br /> The classification plan shall be amended from time to time as needed. New classes <br /> may be added and existing classes may be divided, combined, altered, or abolished. <br /> 1216 New Positions <br /> Requests from depau•t.ment heads to the Board of Supervisors for the creation of new <br /> positions shall be made in accordance with established procedures. New positions shall not <br /> be filled until they are classified and allocated. <br /> For the purpose of adjusting the allocation of positions in a department, the <br /> Comnission, on its own initiative, may request the creation of positions in such department, <br /> in which case the department head shall be fully advised in advance of the Commission's <br /> intention to act and of the reasons therefor. <br /> 196 <br /> • <br /> FIRE -:30 <br />
