Y_ m. <br /> CLASSIFICATION J <br /> 1200 Authority <br /> Pursuant to the provisions of section 36 (a) of the Charter, it shall be the duty of the Commission <br /> to provide for the classification of all positions in the classified service and from time to time for <br /> the reclassification of any or all such .positions. It also shall be the duty of the Commission to <br /> allocate and reallocate individual positions to classes. Each classification action of the <br /> Commission shall be submitted to the Board of Supervisors and shall become effective upon <br /> approval by said Board. <br /> 1204 The Official Classification Plan <br /> • <br /> The schedule of dasses adopted by the Commission and approved by the Board of Supervisors; <br /> effective July 1, 1956, together with all subsequent amendments, constitutes the official <br /> classification plan for all positions in the classified service. The classification plan shall not be <br /> deemed to be a part of the rules of the Commission, but shall serve as an administrative tool for <br /> its personnel transactions. <br /> 1208 Maintenance of Plan <br /> The classification plan shall be kept current by continual investigation and review of positions <br /> in the classified service. Such investigation and review may include the survey of a single <br /> position, or county -wide surveys of all positions in a single class or class series, or surveys of <br /> positions in an organizational unit, or surveys of positions in an occupational grouping. The <br /> investigation and review of a position or positions may be initiated by the Commission or upon <br /> the request of a department head or an employee. In addition the Commission shall provide for <br /> periodic reclassification surveys of all positions in the classified service. <br /> Department heads and employees shall make available to the Commission or its authorized <br /> representatives all pertinent information required to properly maintain the classification plan, <br /> including new statements of duties and responsibilities as needed. <br /> 1212 Amending the Plan <br /> The classification plan shall be amended from time to time as needed New classes may be added <br /> and existing classes may be divided, combined, altered, or abolished. <br /> 1216 New Positions <br /> Requests from department heads to the Board of Supervisors for the creation of new positions <br /> shall be made in accordance with established procedures. New positions shall not be filled until <br /> they are classified and allocated. <br /> For the purpose of adjusting the allocation of positions in a department, the Commission, on its <br /> own initiative, may request the creation of positions in such department, in which case the <br /> IAFF Local 1428- Management Unit R-34 <br /> January 1, 1994- December 31, 1995 <br /> 24 <br /> 2 9 2 Local 1428•M/D11-2 <br /> RU:lm -&16/6 <br />
