Our Mission:
To improve San Leandro’s quality of life by encouraging reinvestment and economic growth
through retention and expansion of existing businesses and attraction of new industry,
which will enhance the local tax base, enabling an increase in the standard of living
for all San Leandro residents.
Lit San Leandro
Working through an innovative public-private partnership,
Lit San Leandro is installing almost 20 miles of fiber optics
throughout the City’s commercial and industrial areas.
This project allows San Leandro businesses to access
broadband speeds up to 10 gigabits per second – the
fastest Internet connections available anywhere. For
companies that make use of big data, San Leandro has
become the ultimate location.
Kaiser Medical Center
Construction is nearing completion on Kaiser Permanente’s billion dollar medical center. With over
700,000 square feet of hospital space and medical offices, this is the largest and most expensive
project in the City’s history. Starting in 2014, residents of San Leandro and the region will have access
to state-of-the-art medical services and technology, placing the City at the forefront of the health
care industry.
San Francisco Bay Shoreline
San Leandro is blessed with over 950 acres of publically owned land along the shores of the San
Francisco Bay, most of which is dedicated to parks and open space for the public to enjoy. Planning
is also well underway for a 50-acre mixed use project that will provide a hotel and conference
center, a 250,000 square-foot office campus, over 200 residential units, restaurants, and community
amenities. The site is one of the premier development opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area
and the project is certain to raise San Leandro’s profile in the regional economy.
Downtown Revitalization
San Leandro’s historic downtown has seen substantial new
investment in recent years, guided by an award-winning
Transit Oriented Development Strategy. Over 250,000 square
feet of class-A office space was recently constructed and
plans are in place for a new high-tech office campus. The
City also just celebrated the opening of a new downtown
parking garage which is paving the way for new retail and
restaurant investment.
