I am originally
from a very conservative city in Los Angeles County, the city of Lancaster. The current Mayor has
reduced crime and has increased a business friendly environment due to the the fighting of crime. I use
to work for him at his local law firm, the R.Rex Parris Law Firm, which is known throughout the state as
well as the country for being a prestigious and respected law firm. Mr. Parris has received threats
because of his strong position against the moving of crime and gangs from the LA valley, yet he has
seen an increase of a friendly city, more housing developments, and a strong environment for new
businesses.

I say all of that to say that I am embarrassed and extremely concerned with the direction of our new city.
This is the area where I chose to move following my marriage, and it is a place where I have chosen to
raise my young family. However the recent suggested ordinance of the installation of Medical Marijuana
Dispensaries in my new home city, disturbs me. I understand the extreme desire for those undergoing
medical needs to have this marijuana for medicinal purposes, however I do not see the need to create an
environment for this to be accessible to those who would abuse its use. The fact that the federal
government has seen the harms this has on a community, a state, an in general a society, proves that
even a liberal government has the common sense to take a stand on this issue.
