2
I implore you as a local citizen of San Leandro and the East Bay area, as well as a husband, a father, and
a supporter for the local economy—PLEASE, do what you were elected to do, and listen to the voice of
the people and not the voice of the invested money that backed your election or future re-election. This
is a great community and a great city, but it could be so much better and the future growth is dependent
upon our present leaders and their decisions. Don't jeopardize the future of our city just for your own
political gain!

I have seen the success of a city and of a mayor (Lancaster, CA) who has had the courage to stand
against the lawyers of the ACLU and other organizations who desire to zap the very moral foundation
our country was founded upon, and I am starting to see the crumbling foundation of a city and its leaders
(San Leandro, CA) due to the pressure of a minority group who has its own selfish intentions in focus.
Think of the thousands of young people that will be affected by this. Think of the parks and streets that
will be ruined because the area has been polluted by increase in crime, drivers under the influence,
prostitution, armed robberies, etc. I will seriously think of moving my family as well as my support for
local businesses somewhere else if this ordinance is passed. I will communicate to my family and
friends that while visiting to stay, eat, and shop in other surrounding cities (such as Hayward, Castro
Valley, Union City, Pleasanton, and Dublin).

Unlike you, I don't care about politics, I care about the purity of my city. I care about the safety of my
family. I care about an environment that is not filled and known for crime, drugs, and vice, but for a
friendly environment to families, homebuyers, and businesses. We have been looking for a home, and as
first time homebuyers, a good location is more important to us than anything. We have already taken
San Lorenzo and Oakland off of our list as potential cities to live—please don't make San Leandro the
third city on that list.

I believe the politicians can and could do the right thing, and I hope our faith in the system and in our
God will overrule any of the proponents toward this ordinance.

Thank you, and despite the outcome, I will continue to pray for each of you, that the God of Heaven and
Earth (the God who gave you the position you hold) will continue to grant you grace and wisdom in
your SERVICE to the people of the great city of San Leandro.

Sincerely,

Stephen Houk
