Most San Leandro residents live within a fifteen minute walk of <br />daily goods and services. Half of San Leandro residents replied that safe walking routes to <br />school exist, while thirty-two percent replied that existing routes to and from school are ok but <br />need improvement. Seventeen percent of San Leandro residents who replied, reported that safe <br />routes to school do not exist in their neighborhoods. Multiple respondents commented that more <br />crossing guards are needed and expressed concerns that the number of crossing guards has <br />been reduced due to budget cuts. <br /> <br />Among all respondents, forty-eight percent of respondents said that safer bike lanes would <br />make them consider bicycling more frequently. Better police enforcement of bicycle lanes is <br />needed according to at least one respondent who wrote: ―SLPD should enforce parking <br />violations into bicycle lanes.‖ A third of respondents replied that more bicycle storage facilities at <br />stations would encourage them to bike more often while an equal number said that more bike <br />lanes are needed. More secure bicycle parking in retail areas was cited by twenty-seven
