line 1 (i) “Private nonprofit hospital” means a private nonprofit acute <br /> line 2 care hospital operated or controlled by a nonprofit corporation, as <br /> line 3 defined in Section 5046 of the Corporations Code, that has been <br /> line 4 determined to be exempt from taxation under the Internal Revenue <br /> line 5 Code. For purposes of this chapter, “private nonprofit hospital” <br /> line 6 does not include any of the following: <br /> line 7 (1) A district hospital organized and governed pursuant to the <br /> line 8 Local Health Care District Law (Division 23 (commencing with <br /> line 9 Section 32000)). <br /> line 10 (2) A rural general acute care hospital, as defined in subdivision <br /> line 11 (a) of Section 1250. <br /> line 12 (3) A children’s hospital, as defined in Section 10727 of the <br /> line 13 Welfare and Institutions Code. <br /> line 14 (j) “Underserved and vulnerable population” means a population <br /> line 15 that has disproportionate unmet health-related needs, such as a <br /> line 16 high prevalence of one or more health conditions or concerns, and <br /> line 17 that has limited access to timely, quality health care. <br /> line 18 127473. A private nonprofit hospital or a nonprofit <br /> line 19 multispecialty clinic that reports community benefits to the <br /> line 20 community shall report on those community benefits in a consistent <br /> line 21 and comparable manner to all other private nonprofit hospitals and <br /> line 22 nonprofit multispecialty clinics. <br /> line 23 127474. A private nonprofit hospital or a nonprofit <br /> line 24 multispecialty clinic shall make its community health needs <br /> line 25 assessment and community benefits plan or community health <br /> line 26 plan available to the public on its Internet Web site. A copy of the <br /> line 27 assessment and plan shall be given free of charge to any person <br /> line 28 upon request. <br /> line 29 <br /> line 30 Article 2. Community Benefits Statement, Community Needs <br /> line 31 Assessment, and Community Benefits Plan <br /> line 32 <br /> line 33 127475. (a) Private nonprofit hospitals and nonprofit <br /> line 34 multispecialty clinics shall provide community benefits to the <br /> line 35 community. <br /> line 36 (b) By January 1, 2015, each private nonprofit hospital and each <br /> line 37 nonprofit multispecialty clinic shall develop, in collaboration with <br /> line 38 the community, all of the following: <br /> line 39 (1) A community benefits statement that describes the hospital’s <br /> line 40 or clinic’s commitment to developing, adopting, and implementing <br />96 <br />— 10 —AB 975 <br />
