Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - February 21, 1995 Page - 4 -
PUBLIC COMMENTS (continued)
couldn't see one group of teenagers that looked menacing. She saw kids
who were shopping, lots of families and children, over all positive
attitude. People have to be more responsible about what they say. To
use this type of media and to use a club doesn't do any good. She
knows the Mayor supports Bayfair and hopes the City Council does also
and will let the community know.
H. Lynn Sexton, 231 Oakes Boulevard, said she did a large portion of her
shopping at Stoneridge until about two years ago, when she began
shopping at Bayfair. She does not feel any less safe walking to her
car at Bayfair than at Stoneridge. She thinks the wrong approach has
been taken. We need to work together in a positive spirit. Negativity
results in loss of business. She has yet to hear positive solutions
from the City' s worst critics. The more negative comments there are
about San Leandro, the less people are going to want to move here,
which is an attack on her property values. It shames her to think
people are distrusted because they look, speak or dress differently.
She believes there are creative people in the community who can help
without making it a military operation. She is encouraged by work done
by the City Council and confident in the Chamber.
I . Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, had a conversation with security
people at Bayfair. The number of youths that could be giving them
problems is only about 10%. There are problems in malls all over
California and the United States. Mr. Richards also spoke regarding
Friends of the Creek and upcoming events. He invited the Council to
the Third Annual Festival at Root Park on April 8th and the Creek
Cleanup followed by a barbecue on April 15th. He distributed
membership forms.
6. CONSENT CALENDAR
Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered
for approval by the City Council with one single action. The City Council
may remove items from the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion.
Items listed on the Consent Calendar are deemed to have been read by title.
Items 6.G and 6.J were removed from the Consent Calendar to New Business.
The remaining items on the Consent Calendar were approved as follows:
Introduced by Council Member Myers, who moved adoption of the Consent
Calendar, with all items deemed to have been read by title, seconded by
Council Member Loeffler, and carried by a majority vote (7) .
A. Minutes of the meeting of February 6, 1995.
B. Resolution No. 95-20, Resolution Approving Agreement with the State of
California, Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Relating to
Maintenance of State Highways in the City of San Leandro (Delegated
Maintenance Agreement) (provides for maintenance of State highways and
establishes reimbursement costs from the State) .
