Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - March 6, 1995 Page - 6 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) <br /> Council Member Loeffler said he was impressed with the Festival of <br /> Homes and received many compliments about San Leandro. He said people <br /> are impressed with San Leandro's efforts to reach out and work with the <br /> real estate community and with the City's retrofit program. <br /> Council Member Loeffler said, in response to comments by Lou <br /> Filipovich, that the City Council does listen to the public and <br /> encourages people to participate and come forward. He said the Council <br /> may not respond the way Mr. Filipovich would like, but they are trying <br /> to respond in the best interests of our community. <br /> Council Member Loeffler asked for a status report on maintenance and <br /> repair of railroad crossings. The City Manager said the Southern <br /> Pacific Railroad representative responsible for maintaining the <br /> Railroad's crossings advised staff that no Railroad funds are available <br /> to improve crossings, and the Railroad will not authorize the City to <br /> do any work within two feet of the rail . <br /> Mr. Oliver said the City has been working with Engineering to develop <br /> cost estimates for the City to work with SPRR on maintenance; those <br /> cost estimates are now being revised to reflect no financial assistance <br /> from SPRR. <br /> The City Attorney said he would look into legal methods of requiring <br /> maintenance, such as an Administrative Complaint to the Public <br /> Utilities Commission. <br /> E. Mayor Corbett said the Festival of Homes was very successful , and it is <br /> wonderful that Mr. Hazelton is going to include San Leandro in his <br /> program. She received many comments from realtors regarding the video <br /> about San Leandro homes. She thanked staff for their work. <br /> Mayor Corbett said the Chamber lunch last week involving San Leandro <br /> schools was a very uplifting presentation, and she is proud of our <br /> schools and students. She said presentations included paintings by <br /> students, Pirates of Penzance performances, Bancroft Middle School 's <br /> San Leandro Watershed Creek science project, the wrestling team, and <br /> others. She congratulated the students of San Leandro and their <br /> teachers. <br /> 10.
