Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - March 6, 1995 Page - 5 - <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Perry commended staff for the Festival of Homes. She <br /> said Ron Hazelton, the "House Doctor, " and his dog, Woody, were guests. <br /> She said Mr. Hazelton is interested in producing a segment or a special <br /> for his television show regarding the City's seismic program. <br /> B. Council Member Polvorosa requested, in view of manufacturers' concerns <br /> regarding vandalism, that the City Council consider forming a <br /> subcommittee consisting of Council Members and staff to meet with <br /> businesses and develop solutions. Mayor Corbett said this matter would <br /> be scheduled for a future Agenda. <br /> Council Member Polvorosa said trucks have difficulty making right turns <br /> at the northeast corner of Fairway and Merced. He suggested obtaining <br /> property from Lucky's to facilitate negotiating the turn and also <br /> setting the stop area back so left turns can be more easily negotiated. <br /> Council Member Polvorosa said, when vehicles are parked at Alvarado and <br /> Portola, the right turn is difficult to negotiate, and he requested <br /> staff look into the possibility of red curbing at that location. <br /> C. Council Member Kerr requested a report from the Police Department <br /> regarding business vandalism. <br /> Council Member Kerr said the Mobile Home Subcommittee, consisting of <br /> himself and Council Members Polvorosa and Galvan, has met twice and has <br /> been very effective. They met with tenants and landlords and discussed <br /> serious issues, such as seismic retrofitting, insurance problems, and <br /> ECHO services related to tenant/landlord disputes, and had a <br /> presentation by the State HCD representative. <br /> Council Member Kerr said improvements to the Tot Lot at Washington <br /> Manor Park have been under consideration for over 10 years . He said <br /> $12,000 was donated for improvements and asked for a status report on <br /> what has been done. <br /> Council Member Kerr asked when the Marina Community Center would be <br /> complete. The City Manager said it was anticipated to open before the <br /> summer, and a Work Session presentation is scheduled for March 20, <br /> 1995. <br /> D. Council Member Loeffler said the Scholarship Dinner for the San Leandro <br /> Scholarship Foundation had a great turnout, and many citizens were <br /> involved in making resources available to kids . He said the Foundation <br /> has supplied more than $400,000 in scholarships over the years. <br /> Council Member Loeffler said March is Partnership in Education Month. <br /> He said 30 San Leandro businesses are involved in working with our <br /> schools. He said there will be a celebration and presentation at <br /> Bancroft Middle School on March 23rd at 4:00 p.m. <br />
