Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 5, 1995 Page - 10 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) <br /> Council Member Loeffler said the Memorial Day Ceremony was the first <br /> time he had seen a medical doctor as the speaker and was impressed with <br /> the remarks from someone seen as a symbol of healing. <br /> Council Member Loeffler said there was a great turnout for the June 3rd <br /> annual track meet and thanked Pete Ballew, Dan Paiva, and the Optimist <br /> Club for their work. <br /> He commended staff for the Farmers' Market and for using creativity in <br /> exploring skateboard issues. <br /> G. Mayor Corbett said she and Council Member Perry attended the Holy Ghost <br /> celebration on Sunday. She said it is a wonderful tradition of the <br /> Portuguese community and asked if the City could offer assistance to <br /> make it a community-wide event. <br /> Mayor Corbett said she would forward information regarding Clean Air <br /> Vehicles from the Bay Area Air Quality District to the City Manager. <br /> 10. ADJOURN <br /> The City Council adjourned its meeting at 9:07 p.m. , in Memory of Mario <br /> Polvorosa. The City Council adjourned to a Work Session on Wednesday, June <br /> 7, 1995, at 7:00 P.M. , at the Community Library Center, Estudillo Room, for <br /> Continued Discussion of the City Manager's Proposed 1995-96 Budget, <br /> Including Recommendations from Boards and Commissions Regarding Funding for <br /> Community Assistance and Community Benefit Activities. <br /> Mayor Corbett said Mr. Polvorosa was known as a "Gentle Giant," who was <br /> small in stature but big at heart. She said he will be dearly missed and <br /> was a unique and wonderful person who contributed greatly to the community. <br /> The City Manager noted upcoming Town Hall Meetings to be conducted <br /> regarding Fire Consolidation. He said discussion regarding the Fire <br /> Consolidation is continuing and will probably be voted upon in June. He <br /> noted 180 copies of the summary of the contract have been mailed to <br /> interested persons, and it is also available for anyone who requests a <br /> copy. He said the cost savings would be the cost of the sixth engine <br /> company, which is estimated to be $1 million per year. <br /> APPROVED: <br /> etym.
