Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - July 17, 1995 Page - 10 - <br /> NEW BUSINESS (continued) <br /> position which is responsible for overall maintenance in a different unit. <br /> The Assistant City Manager said, although responsibility for the golf <br /> course was split between Public Works and Community Services in the past, <br /> it was not effective, so it has been consolidated to be more efficient. <br /> The golf course has been placed under Public Works because that department <br /> recently hired a Public Works Superintendent with extensive experience in <br /> golf courses. The consolidation has improved the condition of the course. <br /> Council Member Perry expressed concern about the future and asked how <br /> Public Works and Recreation activities would be linked and how <br /> communication with the Harbormaster would be maintained. <br /> The Assistant City Manager said the Golf Course Manager and the <br /> Harbormaster will be expected to work in concert, particularly on Capital <br /> Improvement projects, and to take a global perspective. <br /> Minute Order No. 95-59, Matter of Authorization to Create New <br /> Classifications of Golf Course Operations Manager and Development <br /> Specialist (requests authorization from City Council to create new <br /> classifications of Golf Course Operations Manager and Development <br /> Specialist, as approved in the adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 1995-96) . <br /> (1079) <br /> On motion by Council Member Myers, who moved its approval , seconded by <br /> Council Member Polvorosa, and carried by a majority vote (7) , the City <br /> Council authorized the creation of Golf Course Operations Manager and <br /> Development Specialist classifications. <br /> 7.0. Approval of__Work_ Session_Items Requiring Action. <br /> - Proposed Skateboard Area at Thrasher Park. <br /> Dennis Smith, Community Services Department, presented the staff <br /> report. He said the proposal will provide a safe, secure place for <br /> skaters in the community. It will be an enclosed area, and minor <br /> participants must pay and must have release of liability forms signed <br /> by their parents on file. The area will be supervised by City staff. <br /> He reviewed the proposed location and said volunteer parents will build <br /> portable ramps, banks and mounds.- In response to Council questions, he <br /> discussed parking and said staff believes it will be adequate. He said <br /> there is room for expansion of the area if necessary. He said staff <br /> has considered specific times for various age groups and will work with <br /> the Police Department on appropriate routes for skaters to take to and <br /> from the park. <br /> In response to Council questions, the Assistant City Manager said the <br /> parking garage is not a viable option because visibility is poor. <br />
