Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - September 5, 1995 Page - 10 -
CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued)
Council Member Loeffler requested a report on the impact of insurance
industry action on earthquake coverage. He said the community is at
greater risk of recovery if residents cannot buy insurance.
D. Council Member Myers said earthquake insurance cannot be obtained at
any cost in California.
Council Member Myers said he received two phone calls regarding the
increase in animal life such as possums and raccoons. He said people
are concerned that people are leaving food in their recycling
containers and asked if there is a raccoon repellant.
Council Member Myers requested the meeting be adjourned in memory of
William Strelow, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and the
Manufacturers' Association. He said Mr. Strelow was very active in
City events in the 80's and will be missed.
E. Mayor Corbett said the Naval Air Station Reuse Authority will conduct
a Town Hall Meeting on September 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the Community
Library Center, Lecture Hall . She said the residents of San Leandro
are second per capita in terms of impact, and it is important that they
give their input. She said a $3.4 million grant has been awarded to
Calstart at the Station for the manufacture of electric cars.
Mayor Corbett said the cost of the community survey has been reduced as
a result of community concern. She said the Council is not hiring
someone to tell them what to do; they are trying to reach people who
don't normally say what they are thinking. She said, even with the
hundreds of hours the Council spends in the community, there are still
those people they don't reach. She said the Council must be precise
with the delivery of services and needs to formulate plans for the
future around the entire community.
10.
