Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, said Friends of San Leandro Creek
will conduct a bus tour on October 28th. He described the Friends'
revegetation project at Bancroft Middle School . Mr. Richards thanked
the City Council for the Target reward and expressed his sympathy to
the family of Mark Brown. He said the reward shows the community will
not tolerate this kind of act, and it shows Target employees that we
value their safety. He said Target has provided counselors for their
employees, allowed time off, brought in other employees, issued photo
ID badges, provided escort services to the parking lot, and is also
offering a $10,000 reward.
B. Marge Pierce, Personnel Manager, Target Store, said this has been a
difficult time for their team members. She said any support that can
be given is greatly appreciated.
C. Wayne Kislingbury, 2610 W. 134th Avenue, spoke regarding surplus golf
course property. He said articles in the newspapers refer to a
postponement of sale of the property. He said residents in the area
are concerned that the golf course is designated as surplus property
and want it to be taken off the surplus list. Mayor Corbett said this
matter would be discussed at the November 6, 1995, City Council
meeting.
D. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, spoke regarding an initiative for
fire department consolidation and said the City Council can put
initiatives on the ballot without requiring citizens to obtain
signatures. He said correspondence addressed to the City Council
should be listed on the agenda. He said the City Council can utilize
straw votes or telecommuting votes.
E. Dana Johnson, 343 Farrelly Drive, said the budget was predicated on the
assumption the business license tax would be approved, but the budget
should not have been adopted until the tax was passed. He said only
$178,000 is needed, but this will raise $400,000. He spoke regarding
past increases in various taxes and said spending keeps going up, but
the only revenue adjustments are made through increased taxes. He
spoke regarding future financial obligations, and he said the City
Council should be opposed to the business license increases.
