Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - November 6, 1995 Page - 4 - <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS (continued) <br /> In response to Council questions regarding possible merchant <br /> sponsorship, Mr. Pon said he believes the rink will make a lot of money <br /> and increase sales tax. He said the DBA did not survey other <br /> merchants. <br /> I. Paul Paladins , 16784 Stanfield Court, Castro Valley, said parking will <br /> be a problem and asked that the City Council place a moratorium on <br /> parking tickets during the time the rink is installed. He said there <br /> should be good turnover at the rink. He said more needs to be done for <br /> kids and they should have a safe environment. <br /> J. Carol Livricht, Owner of a Business on Parrott Street and Member of the <br /> Downtown Business Association, requested approval of the rink. She <br /> said there used to be activities such as theaters, bowling alleys, <br /> tennis clubs, etc. , but they are gone and there is nothing for kids to <br /> do. She said people with children leave town because there is nothing <br /> for the children. She said the DBA is trying to create a resurgence. <br /> She has seen a lot of positive things, and the City should keep going. <br /> She said she would consider sponsorship and advertising. <br /> K. Barbara Kanin, East Bay Books, said people used to be able to walk at <br /> night. She said now she closes at 8:00 and is the only store at her <br /> end of town open that late. She said the rink is a good thing. <br /> L. Dana Johnson, 343 Farrelly Drive, said there is a parking problem <br /> downtown, but there is also a vacancy problem. He supported the ice <br /> rink. <br /> 6. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered <br /> for approval by the City Council with one single action. The City Council <br /> may remove items from the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion. <br /> Items listed on the Consent Calendar are deemed to have been read by title. <br /> Item 6.D was removed from the Consent Calendar to New Business. The <br /> remaining items on the Consent Calendar were approved as follows: <br /> Introduced by Council Member Myers, who moved adoption of the Consent <br /> Calendar, with all items deemed to have been read by title, seconded by <br /> Council Member Loeffler, and carried by a majority vote (7). <br /> A. Minutes of the meeting of October 16, 1995. <br /> B. Resolution No. 95-209, Resolution of Final Acceptance and Release of <br /> Maintenance Bond for Grover Cleveland Park Improvements, Project No. <br /> 94-8305 (provides for final acceptance of work from Barker Construction <br /> and release of Maintenance Bond after completion of one-year guarantee <br /> period) .
