Mr. Rosenga read the letter,
which discussed funding for police officers under the Crime Bill , the
City Manager's salary, etc. He said the Peralta Citizens' Association
also supports the letter.
F. James Begier, Beiger Buick, opposed the City Manager salary increase.
He said it was poor management to ask the business community for
$400,000 but to pay Mr. Peluso $250,000 to close the Blue Dolphin and
forgive his rent.
G. Larry Norry, 2532 Williams Street, President, Mulford Gardens
Improvement Association, said the removal of parking on Williams Street
between Doolittle and Nome will cause increased parking on Nome and
Sitka. He said the Homeowners' Association should have been contacted.
The City Manager recommended this item be removed from the Agenda and
staff contact Mr. Norry and the Homeowners' Association. The City
Council concurred.
Mr. Norry also spoke regarding a petition from Mediphis regarding the
crosswalk on E. 14th Street at 135th Avenue. He said he understood the
crosswalk would be repainted immediately. He said the petition listed
him as the contact person, but he has not been contacted.
H. Joel DeWitt, 1458 135th Avenue, thanked Council Members Galvan and Kerr
for their no vote on the business license increase and commended Mayor
Corbett on her trip to Taiwan. He said manufacturing is an important
asset to the community, and it pays more in hourly wages. He discussed
the changes in retail pay rates and said the City should be less
dependent on sales tax as a source of income.
6.
