Minutes-City Council/Redevelopment Agency Meeting-December 4, 1995 Page - 5 -
7. NEW BUSINESS
A. Resolution No. 95-235, Resolution Nominating and Appointing Members to
the Youth Advisory Commission - Jachyn Davis, District 1; Natalie
Chattoo, District 2; Josh Reinholds, District 2; Candice Yip, District
2; Tanisha Fernandez, District 3; Dana Nardine, District 3; Robert
Endres, District 4; Nicholas Yuen, District 4; Louis Heystek, District
6; Norman Valera, District 6; and Sabrina Vazquez, District 6. (2680)
Introduced by Council Member Perry, who moved its adoption, seconded by
Council Member Myers, and carried by a majority vote (7) .
The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the newly appointed
• Commissioners. The City Council welcomed the Commissioners and thanked
them for their interest in serving youth.
B. Approval of Work Session Items Requiring Action.
-° Matter of Casa Peralta Seismic Evaluation.
Steve Meyers, City Attorney, said the Council could take action in
accordance with the Municipal Code and authorize the City Manager to
proceed with a contract for the Priority 1 Collapse items on the
basis that there is an immediate hazard to the public health and
welfare and that an emergency situation exists.
Council Member Loeffler said the Council just received the report
and he did not see any difficulty in waiting until the next meeting
so that the media and the public have time to get information. He
said, if there is danger, yellow tape can be placed around the site.
It was moved by Council Member Loeffler, seconded by Vice Mayor
Kerr, to schedule consideration of this matter for the December 18,
1995, City Council meeting.
Council Member Galvan said reinforcement of the structure should
proceed unless the City Council does not want to proceed with saving
the Casa Peralta. He said to delay would be negligent.
The City Manager said the Casa Peralta will be closed tomorrow and
will not be reopened until it meets the Chief Building Official 's
standards.
Vice Mayor Kerr recommended postponing a decision for two weeks to
give the Council time for input and the public and press time to
look at the report.
Mayor Corbett said the report which was presented had been through
peer review.
•
