Council Member Polvorosa spoke regarding the City Council Meeting on <br /> the MOU with Hayward Exchange. He commended Council Member Corbett for <br /> her stand at protecting her neighborhood. He also commended the City <br /> • Council for voting to protect the citizens of the community and said he <br /> would have voted with the majority. <br /> G. Council Member Perry spoke regarding the Martin Luther King, Jr. , Day <br /> activities. She said the City of San Leandro often gets rapped in the <br /> press for not being sensitive to the multi-cultural needs of the <br /> community. She said there was a multi-cultural lecture Friday at the <br /> Library, and many young people attended as well as the Youth Advisory <br /> Commission, herself, Council Member Myers, Mayor Karp, and Members of <br /> the School Board. She said there were no reporters at either the <br /> Martin Luther King, Jr. , Day event or the event at the Library. <br /> H. Council Member Perry said she and Esther Holcomb, San Leandro Unified <br /> School District Board Member, attended the Fiscal Unity Summit for <br /> Alameda County and Contra Costa County to start a dialogue in solving <br /> budget problems on a sub-regional basis. She said one of the <br /> presenters was Assemblyman Johan Klehs who gave out a 30-page document <br /> on the Governor's new budget, which she will be sending to the City <br /> Council . She said it was interesting to look at the table of deficits <br /> for the last three years. She said, in 1991-92, the projected deficit <br /> was $8.5 billion, and it was revised upward in May to $14.1 billion; in <br /> 1992-93, the projection was $5.3 billion, revised to $11 billion. She <br /> said this year's deficit was projected at $8.7 billion, and it has been <br /> revised to over $12 billion. <br /> 10.
