Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - February 1, 1993 Page - 20 - <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Myers said he was going to read some letters he had <br /> received from children regarding the closing of the library; but, due <br /> to the lateness of the hour, he would read them at another time. <br /> B. Council Member Corbett noted that she had attended the Economic <br /> Development Advisory Board for Alameda County meeting. She said the <br /> head of the California Employment Development Department spoke and said <br /> the bad news is that there is not enough funding for everything that <br /> needs to be done, but the Department will change with the new <br /> demographics in order to provide the training necessary for future <br /> employees. <br /> C. Council Member Corbett said she will be attending an EDAB Meeting <br /> tomorrow and will ask what EDAB can do to help cities with their <br /> Economic Development Programs. <br /> D. Council Member Perry said she received from the League the State Budget <br /> Overview and the Strategic Plan for the League and will send copies to <br /> the City Council . She said the next Life After the State Budget <br /> meeting will be held in the first week of March, and the group will be <br /> meeting with key legislative people and Governor's staff. <br /> E. Council Member Perry said she is the Chair of ABAG's Implementing Sub- <br /> Regional Planning Committee, and the Committee will be coming out with <br /> its final report next week. She said she will send it to the City <br /> Council after adoption. She said it relates to such matters as keeping <br /> land-use control at the local level , etc. <br /> F. Mayor Karp said this weekend President Clinton held a. retreat with his <br /> Cabinet Members, and they discussed rebuilding America. He said $25 <br /> billion will be utilized to get the economy going. It appears that 1/3 <br /> will be used for the infrastructure and ISTEA, 1/3 for each HCDA Block <br /> Grants to rebuild cities, and 1/3 for job training. He said Alameda <br /> County projects have already been turned in, but they will be sending <br /> them in again. He said Cisneros and Pena are interested in the Mayors' <br /> opinions, and the Mayors have discussed with them the HCDA Block Grant <br /> restrictions and their concerns with those. <br /> 10.
