IL.
Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - March 15, 1993 Page - 29 -
NEW BUSINESS (continued)
Council Member Kerr said staff should look at lowering the Transfer Tax
and adopting the Utility Tax. He said he had nothing against the
Utility Tax but was against the Transfer Tax.
After discussion, the City Council indicated it would adjourn the
meeting of March 15 to March 22, 1993, for continued City Council
discussion on this matter.
8. PUBLIC HEARINGS
None
9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
A. Council Member Myers challenged the City Council to participate in the
Walk for Education, sponsored by the Marina Faire Homeowners
Association, to fund scholarships. He said the Walk will be held March
25, 1993, at 9:30 a.m. , and he will provide the Council with the forms.
B. Council Member Myers noted that Bob Taylor's staff will have a booth at
the Cherry Festival to provide information regarding the City, and he
thinks this is an excellent idea.
C. Council Member Corbett said she and Council Members Perry and Myers and
Mayor Karp attended the Portuguese flag raising and were present for
the placement of the wreath at the Portuguese Immigrant Statue at Root
Park.
D. Council Member Corbett said she and Council Member Perry attended the
Economic Summit and said Council Member Perry would give additional
information on that.
E. Council Member Corbett spoke regarding the UCSF issue and said it is
changing almost daily. She said the City of Alameda made a bid to
offer ferry service to UCSF for a one-year period. She said the UCSF
location in Alameda was contingent upon transportation, and they
rejected the location based on only being able to get a one-year
commitment for the ferry. She said there is some hope that a
transportation program can be put together by some means.
F. Council Member Corbett wished everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day this
Wednesday.
G. Council Member Kerr said he also attended the Economic Development
Summit. He noted a staff report in response to a letter from John
Sullivan and asked if a response had been sent to him. Mike Oliver,
City Manager, said the response was a staff report.
