Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 3, 1993 Page - 19 - <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS .(continued) <br /> Mayor Karp said he received a phone call and, in that call , he had said <br /> general law cities could increase their transfer tax. He said, <br /> however, Government Code Section 53725 prohibits general law cities <br /> from increasing their property tax. <br /> The following Ordinance was then introduced: <br /> Ordinance No. 93-09, An Ordinance Amending Title II, Chapter 3 of the <br /> San Leandro Municipal Code Relating to Real Property Transfer Taxes and <br /> Declaring This an Urgency Ordinance, to Take Effect Immediately, <br /> Because It Relates to Taxes for the Usual and Current Expenses of the <br /> City (increases the Real Property Transfer Tax rate from $2.00 to $6.00 <br /> per $1 ,000 of sales value) . <br /> Introduced by Council Member Faria, who moved that it be passed to <br /> print and adopted, seconded by Council Member Myers, and carried by the <br /> following called vote: <br /> AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Karp ( 7 ) <br /> NOES: None ( 0 ) <br /> ABSENT: None ( 0 ) <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Myers commended staff on the Economic Development <br /> Breakfast. He said it was a great success, including the food, and he <br /> said the speaker was very good. <br /> B. Council Member Myers asked for a status report on the bank tracking <br /> device, known as Pro-Track. <br /> C. Council Member Myers noted there is a jay-walking problem on Doolittle <br /> Drive, between the apartment buildings and Marina Faire, and feels <br /> perhaps an education program with the apartment building manager would <br /> be helpful . <br /> D. Council Member Corbett said the Economic Development Breakfast was a <br /> great success and thanked staff. She said the video was great, and she <br /> agreed with Dr. Arnold that San Leandro is an "oasis in the desert. " <br /> E. Council Member Corbett said she attended the Community Education <br /> Foundation Dinner. She said this is a fine example of the community. <br /> volunteering to raise funds. She said over $5,500 was raised that <br /> evening, and it is an example of the kind of thing that can be done to <br /> help support youth sports groups. <br />
