Council Member Corbett said she also attended the "Battle of the <br /> Bands, " sponsored by the Youth Advisory Commission. She said it was a <br /> great success and attracted not only high school students but family <br /> groups as well . She congratulated the youth in setting up a peaceful , <br /> fun, family evening. <br /> G. Council Member Kerr said he was disappointed by the turnout at his Town <br /> Hall Meeting. He thanked the Mayor, the City Council Members, Kathy <br /> Ornelas, and Margaret McCluckie for the arrangements that were made. <br /> He said next time perhaps a gimmick could be used to attract people to <br /> the meeting. <br /> H. Council Member Kerr said graffiti is still a problem in the south part <br /> of the City. He said, however, the Police Department advised him 39 <br /> people have been arrested. He said, so far, there have been two weeks <br /> without any graffiti in the Washington/ Lewelling area, and he <br /> commended the Police Department. <br /> I . Council Member Polvorosa said the Economic Development Breakfast was <br /> wonderful and the video was outstanding. He said it made you want to <br /> live here. <br /> J. Council Member Polvorosa referred to a letter from Shirley Campbell and <br /> said the City Council should express support for SB 689. With the <br /> concurrence of the City Council , Mayor Karp said he would have a letter <br /> prepared. <br /> K. Council Member Perry commended the Youth Advisory Commission for the <br /> "Battle of the Bands. " She said she had served as a security person. <br /> She commended Kenton Jang, Dan Paiva, and the Police Officers who <br /> volunteered to work at the "Battle of the Bands. " She also thanked <br /> Greta Velazques and Michael McGougan, who organized parents to do <br /> security. <br /> L. Council Member Perry noted "Teen Speak-Out Night" would be held May 25, <br /> in the City Council Chambers . She said the City of Hayward expressed <br /> interest in developing a youth program, and she would be linking them <br /> up with the City's Youth Advisory Commission. <br /> M. Council Member Perry said May 19 would be the March on Sacramento, and <br /> she encouraged people to forward letters to the City Council or to <br /> Kathy Ornelas to be taken to Sacramento. <br /> N. Council Member Faria said he has heard from people who want to buy the <br /> Economic Development video. Mr. Oliver said we will provide <br /> information on how to obtain it, and it may also be run on cable TV. <br />
