Council Member Corbett said she also attended the "Battle of the Bands, " sponsored by the Youth Advisory Commission. She said it was a great success and attracted not only high school students but family groups as well . She congratulated the youth in setting up a peaceful , fun, family evening. G. Council Member Kerr said he was disappointed by the turnout at his Town Hall Meeting. He thanked the Mayor, the City Council Members, Kathy Ornelas, and Margaret McCluckie for the arrangements that were made. He said next time perhaps a gimmick could be used to attract people to the meeting. H. Council Member Kerr said graffiti is still a problem in the south part of the City. He said, however, the Police Department advised him 39 people have been arrested. He said, so far, there have been two weeks without any graffiti in the Washington/ Lewelling area, and he commended the Police Department. I . Council Member Polvorosa said the Economic Development Breakfast was wonderful and the video was outstanding. He said it made you want to live here. J. Council Member Polvorosa referred to a letter from Shirley Campbell and said the City Council should express support for SB 689. With the concurrence of the City Council , Mayor Karp said he would have a letter prepared. K. Council Member Perry commended the Youth Advisory Commission for the "Battle of the Bands. " She said she had served as a security person. She commended Kenton Jang, Dan Paiva, and the Police Officers who volunteered to work at the "Battle of the Bands. " She also thanked Greta Velazques and Michael McGougan, who organized parents to do security. L. Council Member Perry noted "Teen Speak-Out Night" would be held May 25, in the City Council Chambers . She said the City of Hayward expressed interest in developing a youth program, and she would be linking them up with the City's Youth Advisory Commission. M. Council Member Perry said May 19 would be the March on Sacramento, and she encouraged people to forward letters to the City Council or to Kathy Ornelas to be taken to Sacramento. N. Council Member Faria said he has heard from people who want to buy the Economic Development video. Mr. Oliver said we will provide information on how to obtain it, and it may also be run on cable TV.
