Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 7, 1993 Page - 19 - MATTER OF APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR (continued) Vice Mayor Polvorosa appointed himself and Council Members Kerr and Myers to a subcommittee to develop the criteria for selection of the replacement for Council Member Faria. He said he preferred to appoint members, other than himself, who would not be running in the next election. Council Member Corbett asked what the time lines would be. Vice Mayor Polvorosa said they would get back to the Council as soon as possible but probably within the next couple of weeks. The City Council concurred with the process, with the exception of Council Member Corbett, who opposed the process. The City Clerk then swore John Faria in as Mayor of the City of San Leandro. Mayor Faria thanked the City Council . He said he feels he will be fulfilling Mayor Karp's term, at the direction of the City Council and the electorate. He said his position will be to get those things done that Mayor Karp had started. He said we need to pull together as a Council , to work and move forward and keep the City in the direction it's going now. He said the electorate can change the direction of the City in April if they desire. He said he believes the community will support the Council . He said everyone must work together, and the City Council must divide up Mayor Karp's work. He said no one can replace Mayor Karp, who was one of a kind. He said Mayor and Mrs. Karp were a pair and will be greatly missed by us all . The City Council took a five minute recess. 10. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS The City Clerk announced that Mayor Faria had asked that the Council dispense with regular Council Comments and that he would adjourn the City Council meeting to June 14th. Following the Redevelopment Agency meeting, the City Council would reconvene to eulogize Mayor Dave Karp.
