He noted a "Help the Kids" dinner dance will be
held at the Community Library and will be dedicated to Mayor Karp, with a
presentation to Mrs. Karp.
Council Member Myers said he has been on the Council just over a year and was on
the BZA and a number of committees. He said, during that time, his dealings with
Dave were political . Being on the Council for the past year, he came to know and
respect Dave and considered him as a friend.
He read the following statement: "Dave was very easy to talk with and would
always give you a straight answer if you asked for one, and sometimes even if you
didn't ask for one. It was not until I attended a few meetings with Dave that
I found out how respected and influential Dave was throughout the country. From
San Leandro to Washington, D.C. , Dave was always selling and lobbying for the
City of San Leandro. Dave and Marcia had an incredible amount of energy. They •
were always on the go. They shared their lives with the citizens of San Leandro.
Nothing was too big for Dave. He set goals, steered a course, and stayed right
on until completion. Dave Karp dedicated his waking hours to the City of San
Leandro. Dave's legacy will go on, and his work will never be forgotten
throughout the City. Dave was a family man, business man, politician, and a
friend. The City of San Leandro, citizens, friends, and myself will surely miss
our Mayor, Dave Karp. She said the Council is a family and remembered
people asking Mayor and Mrs. Karp at events if she was their daughter. She said
she got to know Dave as a brother - they would get mad and argue with each other,
then put their arms around each other and go on and work together. She said she
got to know him as a dad, because he looked after the City Council , providing
schedules of events. She got to know him as a grandpa, when she had her first
child. She said Dave became a grandpa right before she and Mark became parents,
and he discussed children with her. She related an incident when her son, Ryan,
was quite young, and she brought him to a committee meeting. She said he started
