•
Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 7, 1993 Page - 24 -
MAYOR DAVE KARP (continued)
Lavern Anderson said he first met Mayor Karp when Dave was first running for
office. He said Mayor Karp had time for everybody and was always available to
talk. He said Dave Karp was his second father. He said Mayor Karp was
disappointed that Mr. Anderson was not on the Task Force. Mr. Anderson
remembered Mayor and Mrs. Karp at the last Veterans' Day Parade, when he was
invited to sit with them. He said the City has lost a great man and a great
friend.
Glenn Hilton said Mayor Karp did a lot of things that were nice that no one else
would even think about. He remembered when Mayor Karp arranged a flag raising
for Mrs. Hilton's brother, who was killed in Korea. Mr. Hilton said Mayor Karp
made arrangements for him to serve on a number of different committees in the
City. Mr. Hilton said that, shortly before he died, Mayor Karp was making
arrangements to replace the chain that was stolen from the Veterans' Memorial
Wall . He said Mayor Karp was always willing to give you a hand.
Mayor Faria said Dave Karp was one of his best friends. He said he knew a side
of Dave that most people didn't know. He said Mayor Karp was the "fixer" in the
Faria household and remembered how he had fixed a compactor right in the middle
of a big party. He said Mayor Karp was a good Mayor, but he was also a good
friend. He said Mayor Karp only had a high school education but knew more about
electronics than most people. He said Mrs. Karp will need a lot of support in
the months to come. He asked everyone to stand and adjourned the meeting in Dave
Karp's honor. •
D:\MINUTES\000793
