Minutes - Joint San Leandro City Council/ Page - 15 -
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency/
Alameda County Board of Supervisors Meeting - June 28, 1993
JOINT PUBLIC HEARING (continued)
East 14th and then it includes the two small areas near the freeway
ramps on I-238. Ms. Silva asked if the new Jiffy Lube building was
included in that? Mr. Martinelli said it was included. Ms. Silva
thanked him for the change and said it has helped a great deal .
Council Member Kerr said he was surprised to hear there is a new map.
Eminent domain doesn't mean they are going to take out the existing
buildings. Mr. Martinelli said there is not a project for that area,
but it has eminent domain.
Supervisor King said the map is new and it is based on the public
meetings. She said the Board has tried to respond to the element of
fear. It is hard to deal with. The 80 letters have been much more
satisfied by this latest map.
R. Judy Figueroa, 1506 Thrush Avenue, said the budget that just went
through at the County level says 200 sheriffs will be lost as well a
number of police. She asked how we would get rid of crime and juvenile
delinquency? Supervisor Campbell said the Board passed a budget which
would be adopted tomorrow. He said Ms. Figueroa was getting into an
area that is not related to redevelopment. He said the Board did put
$10 million in to keep certain public protection, and hopefully, the
people will pass a sales tax to keep public protection at an acceptable
level . He said, in discussions today, the unincorporated area was the
Board's number one priority.
S. Judy Brior, 15459 - 155th Avenue, said she received a letter stating
her home was in eminent domain, that it could be condemned. She said,
when she called, they said that was an error. That has been days ago,
and she has not received a letter stating that her house is not in
eminent domain, and asked when she would get such a letter. She said
her certified mail said that this was a joint meeting with the
Redevelopment Agency and Council , but there was nothing mentioned that
the Board of Supervisors would be here. City Attorney Meyers said the
law requires that the City notice the Agency and Council meetings, but
not the Supervisors. He said it was an accommodation to the Board.
Adolph Martinelli said, with respect to the certified mailing, there
were 35 notices that went out regarding eminent domain to wrong
properties. Supervisor Steele asked when the correction letters would
go out. Mr. Martinelli said they have just gone out or they are going
out tomorrow. They will receive it in writing.
