Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - August 2, 1993 Page - 16 -
CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued)
City Attorney Steve Meyers recommended staff be directed to place this
matter on a future Agenda so it can be discussed; and, if the City
Council wants to direct staff to place it on the ballot, they could do
so.
L. Council Member Perry congratulated the Library for the "Music in the
Summer Air Program" on Saturday. She said, even though it was hot,
there was good participation.
M. Council Member Perry said it was wonderful that the entire City Council
had attended the Broadmoor Neighborhood Association meeting. She said
these issues are of concern to all . She said the suspect in the Quick-
Stop shooting was apprehended. She said Neighborhood Watch works. She
noted tomorrow night would be "Neighborhood Night Out" and encouraged
everyone to participate.
N. Council Member Nahm spoke regarding Neighborhood Watch. He asked that
he be informed of any new or on-going groups in his area and whether or
not they are picking up any momentum. He said he would like to see
what he can do to assist in the Bay-O-Vista area.
0. Council Member Nahm said Mr. Harder's van is a shrine to the First
Amendment. He said, although he does not always agree with several of
the things Mr. Harder says, he defends his right to say them. He
expressed his respect for what Mr. Harder has attempted to do and his
admiration for his tenacity.
P. Mayor Faria said yesterday was the 113th Anniversary of the UPEC. He
said the UPEC was formed in 1880 by 14 Portuguese immigrants in San
Leandro and is now a State-wide organization. He offered them his
congratulations.
11.
