MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> OCTOBER 25, 1993 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in Special Session in the City <br /> Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Faria <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Kerr, Myers, Nahm, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Faria <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Proclamation in Support of San Leandro Girls' , Inc. , Tobacco Awareness <br /> Week, October 24-30, 1993 (supports Girls' , Inc. , efforts to recognize <br /> and celebrate Smoke-Free Workplaces in San Leandro during Tobacco <br /> Awareness Week) . <br /> Demisha Burns, Donna Doan, Kamon Parker, and Elizabeth Bazar, members <br /> of the Project T.H. I .N.K. Program (Tobacco Habits Incredibly Not Kool ) <br /> thanked Cassandra Youngblood for making the program possible. They <br /> said the Project taught them a lot about the damage tobacco can do to <br /> people psychologically, socially, and environmentally. They said they <br /> also made a lot of friends and learned how to work with other people. <br /> They said they appreciated the Program and hoped it would continue. <br /> B. Presentation by Mayor Faria of the 1993 U.S. Mayors' "Help End Hunger" <br /> Awards: <br /> - Corporation -- Kraft General Foods. For its Contribution of $12,000 <br /> to the Davis Street Community Center to purchase food for those in <br /> need. Mark Johnson, Contributions Committee Chairman, will accept <br /> the award on behalf of Kraft General Foods. <br /> Mark Johnson, Kraft General Foods, accepted an Award in recognition of <br /> their work on behalf of the hungry in our community. He said they <br /> appreciated the Award and said there are advantages to everyone helping <br /> people help themselves because they then become participants in the <br /> community. He said Kraft has been involved with the Davis Street <br /> Center, Girls' , Inc. , and Adult Literacy, and participation in those <br /> organizations contributes to a better community. <br />
