Council Member Polvorosa said bar owners in the City are concerned <br /> about the possibility of a smoking ordinance that would affect bars. <br /> Mayor Faria said bars are exempt under the existing Smoking Ordinance. <br /> He suggested a copy of the Ordinance be given to bar owners. <br /> F. Council Member Polvorosa said the Bus Media bus stop adjacent to <br /> Mission Bay is causing a sight distance problem. Kathy Ornelas, <br /> Community Relations Representative, said Traffic Engineering has <br /> determined that the bus shelter is appropriately placed, but the sight <br /> problem is caused by the newsstands, and she is working with the <br /> newspapers to resolve the situation. <br /> G. The City Attorney read the Smoking Ordinance, which states smoking is <br /> optional in bars and cocktail lounges, and they are not subject to the <br /> provisions of the Ordinance; but an owner or operator may designate <br /> their establishment as no-smoking. <br /> H. Council Member Polvorosa said there is a sight distance problem caused <br /> by a hedge between the houses at the corner of Wiley and Purdue and <br /> 1383 Purdue. <br /> I . Council Member Perry said, in addition to the events already mentioned, <br /> she congratulated the Library for another sold-out Family Night. She <br /> said many people were turned away, and it shows the need for family <br /> events in the City. <br /> J. Council Member Perry described the Haunted House and carnival booths <br /> run by the San Leandro Key Club and Octagon members and said it was <br /> also a very worthwhile activity that raised funds for the Make A Wish <br /> Foundation and Family Services. <br /> K. Council Member Perry said she learned the value of Neighborhood Watch <br /> first hand when four individuals attempted to steal her car. A <br /> neighbor spotted them and called the Police Department. She thanked <br /> the Police Department and Office DeGrano for their quick response. <br /> 10.
