Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - April 4, 1994 Page - 11 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) <br /> E. Council Member Kerr said he toured the Northridge earthquake area. He <br /> said it was much more devastating than on TV. He said the damage was <br /> widespread. He said they were able to meet with the City Manager and <br /> staff of the City of Santa Monica and get a lot of help in <br /> understanding how San Leandro could prepare for the big earthquake. He <br /> noted that southern California is quickly rebuilding its freeways. He <br /> said San Leandro is making great progress in preparing the community <br /> for an earthquake. <br /> F. Council Member Polvorosa said he also went to Northridge. He said it <br /> is difficult to describe the devastation; not many buildings could <br /> withstand this type of shock. <br /> G. Council Member Polvorosa noted the Floresta Little League opening day <br /> and parade were held last Saturday. He said it was fun to see all the <br /> little kids in their cleats. <br /> H. Council Member Perry said she, Council Members Kerr and Polvorosa, and <br /> Mayor Faria threw out the first pitches at the Bobby Soxers game. <br /> I . Council Member Nahm said the Exchange Club held its 21st Annual Easter <br /> Egg Hunt at Chabot Park and hundreds of children attended. He said it <br /> is a worthwhile activity and it was good to see this activity for our <br /> young people. <br /> J. Mayor Faria commented on the Trivia Bee held at the Library. He said <br /> the City Council team made it to the second round and it was a fun <br /> evening. He said it was a sold-out crowd that raised $10,000 for <br /> Project Literacy. <br /> 10.
