• <br /> Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - April 19, 1994 Page - 2 - <br /> School Board Member-Elect Joyce A. Rutledge thanked everyone for attending <br /> tonight. She said she appreciates the support and the volunteers and people who <br /> got the word out that we need some change in our schools. She thanked her <br /> parents, Norma and Dick Rutledge; her best friend, Jennifer Low; and her <br /> significant other, Allan Starosciak. <br /> School Board Member-Elect Glenda Nardine thanked everyone for returning her to <br /> office. She said it is a pleasure to serve the School District. She thanked her <br /> family for their support. <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> City Manager Mike Oliver and City Attorney Steve Meyers presented plaques to <br /> Council Member Nahm and Mayor Faria. <br /> Mr. Oliver said it has been his pleasure and the pleasure of the employees of the <br /> City to have these people serving this community and governing this organization. <br /> He said Council Member Nahm has assisted in some of the most difficult financial <br /> and stressful times in the last 22 years and has done an outstanding job. He <br /> kept his eye on the horizon and never lost track of what was important for the <br /> community. <br /> Mr. Oliver said he has counted on Mayor Faria for many years. He noted that <br /> Mayor Faria has served the City for 18 years, eight as City Council Member and <br /> Mayor. He said Mayor Faria always read his material and was always ready to ask <br /> the difficult questions. He said Mayor Faria provided tremendous leadership for <br /> staff and the community. <br /> Judge Kurtz administered the Oath of Office to Council Members-Elect: <br /> Gordon A. Galvan, District 1 <br /> Julian P. Polvorosa, District 3 <br /> Garry A. Loeffler, District 5 <br /> Council Member-Elect Gordon A. Galvan thanked everyone attending the ceremony and <br /> everyone who voted, as well as all the people who gave their time to support his <br /> campaign. He recognized a man who he said has been committed to San Leandro and <br /> served for many years, who ran a hard and honest campaign, and who is truly a <br /> class act - Michael Pretto. Council Member-Elect Galvan introduced his wife, <br /> Christina, and his son, Daniel , and thanked them for their support. He also <br /> thanked his sister, Karen, and mother, Olga. He congratulated the new Mayor and <br /> Council Members and said he looks forward to working with them as well as the <br /> existing Council . He said the Council represents a diverse and knowledgeable <br /> group of people to forge our future, and he's proud to be a part of it. He said <br /> the people have spoken, voted with fervor for change, and voted for a new outlook <br /> at City Hall and for more people consideration. He said he is proud to be a part <br /> of the change in this City. He gave special thanks to his mother and father, and <br /> said he wished his father were here to see this day. <br />
