Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - August 15, 1994 Page - 13 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) <br /> C. Council Member Galvan said he would like to see the proposal for the <br /> "Shop San Leandro" program discussed at a future Work Session. <br /> D. Council Member Perry noted the very successful "National Night Out." <br /> She said she attended 16 of the 22 functions and it was heartwarming to <br /> see many new start-up groups. She said this is the best turnout she <br /> has seen in years, and the community is taking responsibility for <br /> itself. <br /> E. Council Member Perry spoke regarding cable regulations and <br /> telecommunications as they relate to S 1822. She said it is important <br /> to look after cities' rights and noted Senators Boxer and Feinstein <br /> have agreed to help introduce pro-cities amendments to the bill . <br /> F. Council Member Perry said she would be participating with Pacific Bell <br /> on their network upgrade and would be attending a meeting in San Jose <br /> on Friday. She said they would be discussing costs to cities, how <br /> cities recover their costs, who has authority over construction <br /> standards, etc. <br /> G. Council Member Kerr said he has audio tapes of two lectures by the <br /> League of California Cities and said they were available to the City <br /> Council . <br /> H. Council Member Kerr noted that a freight train blocked the intersection <br /> at the end of Lewelling Boulevard for 2-1/2 hours today. <br /> I . Council Member Kerr expressed concern regarding the reorganization of <br /> the City Manager's Office and the reassignment of clerical personnel . <br /> He requested the City Council look at the issue in Closed Session or <br /> appoint an ad hoc committee. He said the Mayor should have her own <br /> confidential secretary. <br /> Mayor Corbett said she discussed this matter with the City Manager and <br /> preferred not to put the entire matter on hold, only the matter of the <br /> Mayor's secretary. <br /> J. Council Member Loeffler said "National Night Out" was a great affair. <br /> He said there is a feeling in the community of neighbors gathering <br /> together and sharing that is very powerful . He said one neighborhood <br /> has transformed itself into a Disaster Preparedness Group as well . <br /> K. Council Member Loeffler said he would like the City to investigate <br /> cablecasting Council Meetings. He said more people can be informed <br /> through cablecasting the meetings, and it is timely to explore this <br /> during the retrofit. <br /> L. Council Member Loeffler said he agreed more discussion was needed on <br /> the clerical staffing. <br />
