r
Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - October 17, 1994 Page - 10 -
CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued)
F. Council Member Galvan said he personally supports the Measure and has
endorsed it but is not in favor of the City Council supporting or
opposing it or any other political measure or candidate. He said he
must represent all points of view in the community; and, although he is
happy to explain why he personally endorses the Measure, he is not
comfortable with the Council supporting it as a body.
G. Mayor Corbett said she attended the October 14th Education Forum put on
by the Economic Development Advisory Board Education Subcommittee. She
said 300 people attended and there was an outpouring of support for the
"School -to-Work Transition Programs. "
H. Mayor Corbett noted the City has been granted $500,000 for police
officers. She said this is a special honor for smaller cities such as
San Leandro and extended her thanks to the Police Department.
I . - Council Member Myers said he concurred with Council Member Galvan's
comments related to Measure D. He said the grant for the Police
Department was a feather in the City's cap.
J. Mike Oliver, City Manager, noted the City has received 100 acres of
land from Citation Homes for use as a dredge-spoils area for $1 .00. He
said this is the result of many years of work, and he said in between
dredging the area will be used as a wild-life habitat. He noted the
City also has 172 acres being restored, and noted the City has made
tremendous strides in the shoreline area.
•
10.
