Presentation of the Tree City Flag and Proclamation Declaring December
5th Arbor Day in Celebration of the City of San Leandro's Receipt of
Tree City Recognition.
Dan Nagle, Public Works Services Department, displayed the Tree City
Flag which the City of San Leandro received from the National Arbor
Association in recognition of being a "Tree City. " He said there was
a 10-year period in the 70's and 80's when the City removed more trees
than it planted; that trend has been reversed, and over 3,500 trees
have been planted in the last 5 years. He said the City's tree list
has been increased from 9 to 18 varieties, and the trees are planted
free of charge. He said the City is also looking at a Master Plan for
its Tree Program.
Mayor Corbett read the Proclamation and thanked staff for all their
work in making San Leandro a "Tree City.
