He said TCI is the largest cable
company in the United States so this will create a monopoly. He said
he feels the City should be able to invite other cable providers into
San Leandro such as the phone company.
Mayor Karp said, unfortunately, the phone companies do not have the
necessary authority to participate in cable television.
B. Council Member Corbett asked if a motion was needed on the Martin
Street Improvement Project discussed at Work Session. Acting City
Manager Mike Oliver indicated no; consensus had been given at Work
Session for staff to conduct a Town Hall Meeting.
C. Council Member Corbett requested that staff move forward quickly to get
together with all interested parties regarding budget cuts which will
need to be made.
Mike Oliver said rescission of the Assessment Districts requires that
staff look elsewhere for the $1.6 million needed revenue. He suggested
the City Council hold a Work Session in the next week or so. He said
the budget must be adopted in June, and the sales tax situation is
worse than anticipated. He said department heads are working on a
number of additional items for consideration by the City Council .
0.
