Council Member Santos said he will address the Fire Chiefs Department
of the League of California Cities this Thursday afternoon regarding
his plan for assessing insurance companies for a portion of their
premiums to pay for fire protection. He said such a program could
produce substantial revenue for San Leandro.
B. Council Member Santos said he had spoken to a couple whose mother owns
a mobile home in Mission Bay Mobile Home Park. He said the mother is
in a convalescent home, and her mobile home has been vacant and cannot
be reused or loaned to anyone. He said there are currently 23 units
for sale in Mission Bay, but they are not selling because the new
owners would have to pay rent increases.
Council Member Faria said this is State law. Council Member Santos
said the couple he spoke with are retired, on a fixed income, and still
have to pay the rent on their mother's unit even though it is vacant.
He asked if this type of situation would be included in the information
compiled by the City Council Mobile Home Committee and was assured it
would.
C. Council Member Perry said she attended the ABAG Assembly last week and
certain portions of the Regional Government Platform were adopted.
