Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - April 21, 19920 Page - 2 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> Judge Hora swore in the City Council Members: <br /> Linda Perry, District 2 <br /> Howard W. Kerr, District 4 <br /> Kent W. Myers, District 6 <br /> Council Member Perry thanked the person who is always there to support her, give <br /> her advice, and love her no matter what - her mother, Jeanne. She also thanked <br /> her campaign team, Bob Berger, Dick Marshall and Judge Landis. She said it is <br /> time for San Leandro to pull together as a community to face the many issues <br /> before us. She invited the audience to a reception in the South Offices <br /> Conference Room immediately following the ceremony. <br /> Council Member Kerr said it is an honor and a privilege to serve the City of San <br /> Leandro. He said he is following two great Council Members - Bob Glaze and Judge <br /> Landis. He said it is time to get the City back together so people will be proud <br /> of San Leandro. He said, with all of us working together, San Leandro can become <br /> a great city again, as it has always been. He introduced his wife, Eleanor; son, <br /> Dr. Jay Kerr, and family; son, Rick, and family; and daughter, Mary. He said it <br /> takes a whole team to put a campaign together. He thanked his team and expressed <br /> special thanks to Carolyn Green, who headed his committee, and Mayor and Mrs. <br /> Karp. <br /> Council Member Myers introduced his wife, Mike; son, Tim, and his wife, Brenda; <br /> Brenda's parents, Winnie and Lucas; his brother-in-law, Bob; and Cappi Santos, <br /> his campaign manager. He thanked his many volunteers. He said he wants to bring <br /> San Leandro back into the black. <br /> Mayor Karp thanked Judge Hora and complimented her on the fine job she is doing <br /> on the bench of the Hayward-San Leandro Municipal Court. <br /> Mayor Karp spoke regarding departing Council Members Glaze and Santos. He said <br /> he has served with them for eight years. He reflected on the fun times he has <br /> had with the Council Members and discussed activities such as the helicopter ride <br /> and the Bucket Brigade at Bayfair. He said the City Council has provided him <br /> with a lot of support which has enabled him to obtain more than $107 million for <br /> the community and the area. He noted major accomplishments the City has achieved <br /> in the last eight years, including completion of a new General Plan, the North <br /> Area Study, the Zoning Code, Redevelopment Areas, and the Measure B projects. <br /> He wished Council Members Glaze and Santos well in the future and presented them <br /> with plaques of appreciation. <br /> Council Member Santos reflected on his eight years on the City Council . He <br /> thanked staff for their dedication and assistance and said they are a wonderful <br /> group of employees. He said he was fortunate to serve with individuals who are <br /> willing to sacrifice their personal lives to serve the City. He commented on the <br /> Mayors and Council Members with whom he has served. He said that, when he was <br /> elected eight years ago, he wanted to change the type of government in the City. <br /> He said the process was started to lead the City into the 21st Century. He said <br /> our system of government is representative. He noted the projects that have been <br />
