He said the General Plan <br /> sets the tone for the new San Leandro. He noted the Master Plan of City Streets, <br /> the new Zoning Code, and the North Area Study. He said the voter has now <br /> suggested that the City slow down and plan anew for the future. He said the City <br /> Council has been active because that's what the people told them they wanted. <br /> He said the City Council reflects the people of San Leandro, a City in <br /> transition. <br /> He thanked his wife of 37 years, Melitta, and his children for their support. <br /> He said he was sorry his mother was not here to say goodbye; he said she came <br /> from the generation that built America. He said America has provided each of us <br /> a good living. He said today we seem to have lost our way, but we will move into <br /> a future that will result in equality for all and justice for each and every one <br /> of us. <br /> Council Member Glaze said for eight years the City Council has been his life. <br /> He said the people of San Leandro voted him in eight years ago and there have <br /> been a lot of good times. He said he hoped Kent and Howard would continue the <br /> good times. He said the Council has been a family. He said people have asked <br /> if it was the Monday nights that gave him enthusiasm; but he said, no, it was the <br /> times in the community, at the schools, and with the people we've touched, made <br /> friends with, and worked with. He said he wouldn't trade his colleagues for a <br /> million dollars and thanked all of them. He said he has been fortunate to work <br /> with three Mayors.
