CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
A. Council Member Corbett said she had been contacted by a business person
who has concerns regarding the Business License process and who wishes
to know his duties and responsibilities as regards Business Licenses.
Council Member Corbett said he said the gentleman did not know that
January was the deadline for renewal of Business Licenses and asked how
people are informed. She said he also suggested the City look into
staggering the deadlines for renewal .
B. Council Member Kerr noted National Night Out would be held tomorrow
night, August 4, as part of the Neighborhood Watch Program and
encouraged people to turn on their porch lights between 7:00 and 10:00
p.m. He said this activity has grown and grown, but this year the
number of parties seems to be down. He said he hopes the City can get
a greater number of parties in future years. He said he is proud of
the fact that residential burglaries have been reduced, and he thinks
Neighborhood Watch has something to do with this.
C. Council Member Kerr said it appears that the work on the Citation
property will be finished earlier than expected and the fence on
Lewelling Boulevard will be taken down ahead of schedule.
D. Council Member Kerr noted that he saw Georgia Denehey, the former City
Clerk, at a conference in Monterey.
E. Council Member Perry noted the Youth Advisory Commission is completing
its first year and said she would like to see commendations prepared
for the out-going members and to have them presented at the City
Council Meeting on August 17th.
F. Council Member Perry said National Night Out is a very successful
activity, and she encourages people to get organized and have parties.
G. Mayor Karp said Business License Fees in San Leandro are the lowest in
Alameda County, and the City has the simplest method of paying. He
said in San Leandro payment is based on the number of employees; in
other cities in Alameda County payment is based on the gross sales.
