Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - September 21, 1992 Page - 8 -
7. NEW BUSINESS
Items Removed from the Consent Calendar
6A. The Minutes of the meeting of September 8, 1992, were amended and approved.
Council Member Perry noted that she was elected to chair the ABAG
Subregional Planning Committee, not the Regional Committee.
The Minutes were approved as amended.
6D. Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and Calling for Bids for
Dayton Baseball Field, Project No. 92-8630 (provides for construction of
baseball field, including grading, landscaping, irrigation, and fencing) .
Council Member Polvorosa asked who would conduct upkeep of the fields.
Dennis Smith said the City already has an agreement with the San Lorenzo
School District, with a lease of up to 10 years, which provides that the
City install and construct all improvements and that the School District
maintain them.
Council Member Kerr asked if the field will be closed off to the public,
for the exclusive use of the Washington Manor Junior League, or whether
others may use it. Mr. Smith said there will be priority use by the Junior
League and Redwood Christian School , the current tenant, and he is working
with both of them on a schedule. He said the City issues permits. He said
this project is a mitigation measure for development of the former Marina
High School . He said the field will be open to the public and more permits
will be issued, but this does not preclude non-permittees from using the
fields. Council Member Kerr asked how neighboring homes will be protected
from balls. Mr. Smith said extensive fencing is being done, with extensive
consideration given to adjacent homes, and Redwood Christian School will
help police the area. Council Member Kerr said it is wonderful to see this
type of cooperation to utilize school grounds and work with the School
District and Redwood Christian.
Council Member Perry said it appears funding is $15,000 short and asked if
the project will be phased. Mr. Smith said all available funds would be
spent, and the Recreation and Parks Commission is considering setting
additional discretionary funds aside for this project.
Resolution No. 92-266, Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and
Calling for Bids for Dayton Baseball Field, Project No. 92-8630 (provides
for construction of baseball field, including grading, landscaping,
irrigation, and fencing) .
