Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - November 2, 1992 Page - 4 -
7. NEW BUSINESS
Items Removed from the Consent Calendar.
6D. Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and Calling for Bids for
Castro/Williams Intersection Realignment, Project No. 92-8337 (provides for
street intersection realignment and installation of curb, gutter, sidewalk
and a wrought iron fence at the southwest corner of the intersection of
Castro and Williams Streets) .
Council Member Kerr asked if the design of the project was to slow traffic
down at the intersection. Mike Oliver, City Manager, said the project has
been planned for a number of years in response to community concerns
regarding vehicle safety.
Bill Silva, City Engineer, said the purpose of the design is to eliminate
a very smooth curve that allows traffic to go from Williams to Castro at an
unsafe speed. He said the design creates more of a right-angle
intersection than currently exists. He said this has been a long process
of dealing with the adjacent property owner to develop a configuration that
is acceptable to them.
The following Resolution was then introduced:
Resolution No. 92-296, Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and
Calling for Bids for Castro/Williams Intersection Realignment, Project No.
92-8337 (provides for street intersection realignment and installation of
curb, gutter, sidewalk and a wrought iron fence at the southwest corner of
the intersection of Castro and Williams Streets) . (2724)
Introduced by Council Member Myers, who moved its adoption, seconded by
Council Member Polvorosa, and carried by the following called vote:
AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa;
Mayor Karp ( 7 )
NOES: None ( 0 )
ABSENT: None ( 0 )
6E. Resolution of Award of Contract to Fox Construction for Water Pollution
Control Plant Modifications, Project 593-8519 (recommends award to the low
bidder for bid amount of $84,615) .
Council Member Kerr said the bid amount of the project was $84,615; yet,
design costs were $27,000 and Engineering and Administration $8,460.
Bill Silva explained that the bid amount is for the first phase of a
$200,000 project, and the design costs are for the entire project. He said
the remainder of the project will be constructed as funds are available.
