ORDINANCE NO. 91-02 (1126) <br /> AN ORDINANCE RECLASSIFYING CERTAIN PROPERTY <br /> HEREIN DESCRIBED AS TO ZONING DISTRICT AND <br /> AMENDING ZONING MAP <br /> (A-90-8) <br /> 850 THORNTON STREET <br /> Introduced by Council Member Perry, who moved its adoption, seconded by Council <br /> Member Glaze, and carried by the following called vote: <br /> AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp ( 7 ) <br /> NOES: None ( 0 ) <br /> ABSENT: None ( 0 ) <br /> 6. NEW BUSINESS <br /> A. Presentation of Check to the City by the Optimist Club of San Leandro <br /> for the Shoreline Run. Harold Kitzmann, Secretary of the Optimist Club, <br /> presented the City with a check for $1,000 in support of the Shoreline <br /> Run. Council Member Glaze accepted the check on behalf of the City <br /> Council and thanked the Optimist Club for their time, efforts, and <br /> contributions to the community. <br /> B. Presentation by Council Member Perry of Proclamation Declaring Portuguese <br /> Immigrant Week. Council Member Perry noted that last week was Portuguese <br /> Immigrant Week. She read a Proclamation declaring Portuguese Immigrant <br /> Week and said she and Council Member Santos had served on the executive <br /> committee. She said the events were very successful and exemplified the <br /> City's recognition of its Portuguese heritage. <br /> C. Presentation of Proclamation in Recognition of Earthquake Preparedness <br /> Week to Fire Chief Cole. Mayor Karp said the City has made great strides <br /> in disaster preparedness and noted that San Leandro now has Radio Station <br /> 1610, which is the Emergency Broadcast Station. He read a Proclamation <br /> regarding Earthquake Preparedness Week and presented it to Fire Chief <br /> Cole and Disaster Preparedness Coordinator McClellan. Mr. McClellan <br /> thanked the City Council for their support of the Earthquake Preparedness <br /> efforts and said the City now has a fully developed Disaster Response <br /> Plan, as well as Radio 1610, and a network of volunteer ham operators. <br /> He said the Partnership for Preparedness Program has received an <br /> overwhelming response and has been very successful in uniting all San <br /> Leandro schools, both public and parochial , in exchanging information <br /> and ideas regarding earthquake preparedness. He noted the number of <br /> activities taking place in the schools in April . <br />
