Council Member Glaze asked that a report be prepared on the possibility <br /> of installing bike lanes on Lewelling Boulevard. <br /> E. Council Member Glaze noted the "Keep Clear" pavement legend at the <br /> intersection of Lewelling and Sedgeman needs to be replaced. <br /> F. Council Member Glaze said that, effective July 1 , he wishes to resign <br /> from the following City Council Ad Hoc Committees: <br /> Cherry Festival <br /> City Council Policy <br /> Development Fees for Street Improvements <br /> Disaster Preparedness <br /> Finance <br /> Fire Long-Range Planning <br /> Utility Users' Tax Study <br /> Mayor's Committee for Preservation of Human Rights <br /> and Against Racial and Religious Intolerance <br /> G. Council Member Glaze also said he would be resigning from ACTEB/ACAP and • <br /> as an alternate to the Association of Bay Area Governments. <br /> H. Council Member Perry noted the Community Relations Representative's <br /> recent memorandum relating to phone numbers on shopping carts. She said <br /> that, although the big stores have phone numbers on their shopping <br /> carts, smaller shopping centers, such as Palma Plaza or Orchard Supply, <br /> do not. She asked that staff look into this matter. <br /> I . Council Member Perry noted that on May 14th she, Mark Adcock, and <br /> possibly Council Member Corbett will be teaching senior Government <br /> classes at San Leandro High School . <br /> J. Mayor Karp spoke regarding the matter of responsibility and government. <br /> He said many of the existing budget problems have been passed on to the <br /> citizens by the Federal Government. As an example, he noted the <br /> American Disability Act, which had been passed but not funded and would <br /> cost $700 million. He said the Federal Government will pass this cost <br /> on to the State, which will pass it to the County, which will pass it <br /> to the cities. He said people need to wake up and realize that every <br /> time a law is passed someone has to pay. He said all governmental <br /> agencies must make sure they have the reserve funds to take them through <br /> times of recession. He said it is important that the American public <br /> become more involved and more aware of what is going on at the State and <br /> Federal levels. <br />
