Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 17, 1991 Page - 17 -
PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued)
Larry Norry, 2532 Williams Street, said he agreed with Mr. Tyler, and
said he thinks the Planning Commission recommendation was proper. He
discussed existing problems with noise and traffic from trucks from
Ruan and Best Trucking. He said it was not possible to tell when
Foster Farms did their test, if trucks were Foster Farms or if they
were the Best or Ruan trucks. He said the proposal from Foster Farms
had trucks going out in the middle of the night when people are trying
to sleep. He said the property was a potential hazardous materials
area. He said he did not agree with the figures on how the property
would benefit San Leandro financially. He said he did not feel
truckers would make left turns on Aurora Dr. as proposed. He felt
there would be constant truck traffic and the impact on the residential
neighborhood would be substantial .
William Carrish, 13025 Neptune Drive, said he was speaking on behalf
of the San Leandrans for Reasonable Growth, and the Shoreline Property
Owner's Association. He said both groups are against the application.
He said the property was originally a toxic site, although he was told
it was cleaned up. He said this proposal would create noise and
traffic pollution and devalue surrounding properties. He said the
proposed use would only benefit the property owners and Foster Farms.
He said this is a truck operation being called a distribution center.
Don Gray, Reynolds & Brown, said comments were attributed to himself
and to Reynolds & Brown in the Planning Commission minutes. He said
Reynolds & Brown has not taken a position on the project. He said he
only heard the full details of the project tonight. He said Reynolds
& Brown is a member of the Oyster Point Property Owner's Association.
He said Reynolds & Brown did not make a statement in support of or
against the application.
Tim Kelly, Foster Farms, said he was surprised at the conflict. He
said his company felt this use fit the area and was compatible with the
community. He said this is not a trucking company, and they have a
strict schedule and trucks do not go out every day. He said the bulk
of his business is done four days a week. He also said none of the
product touches the ground, and said it was a clean operation, and
truckers would make their left turns on Aurora Dr.
There being no further comments from the public, on motion of Council
Member Perry, seconded by Council Member Faria, and carried
unanimously, the Public Hearing was closed.
